First camping trip in Suriname - New Babunhol

This is the hut where we'd hang our hammocks. We also had a tent because we didn't think Millie was quite ready for a hammock but the rest of us did try sleeping in the hut.

Charlie wanted to play this game ALL day. I think Adam got quite the workout.

Charlie was so proud of himself when he got to hold this lizard. 

You'd think after we'd caught and manhandled the lizard he'd have run away as fast as he could. Nope he hung out at our hut until we left. I accidentally spilled some pancake batter on his head (that's how we knew it was the same lizard all along) and I think he was secretly hoping for more.

Later this tree frog came to join us.

We found these two snuggling. Weird, right?


We had such a great time swimming in the river all day and hanging out with our friends. Charlie did not want to come home and kept trying to talk people into staying there with him. Both kids loved all the extra attention they got having so many people around. At night we could hear toads "singing" so we'd walk around with a flashlight and try to find the ones who were making the noise. Charlie loved seeing their throats puffed up. We could also hear frogs and howler monkeys. We hiked around hoping to see some monkeys but we didn't luck out. Sleeping in a hammock was fun but there were some noisy people at camp which made it difficult to sleep. We were worried we'd get eaten alive by mosquitos but there seemed to be less at Babunhol than there are in our own backyard!
