We drove up to Antietam to learn about this influential battle. Turns out this battle led President Lincoln to issue the Emancipation Proclamation just a few months later.

This is Sunken Road or "Bloody Lane." Once a simple farmer's road it became a place of death when the farm road was soaked with blood as the Confederates were struck and knocked out of line, forming what seemed to be perfect rows of dead men in the road behind them. http://www.cyberlearning-world.com/nhhs/atlas/bloody.htm

We thought we'd also visit Harper's Ferry, WV and instead we got lost. When we finally arrived (a couple hours later) all we found was a picnic area - and we didn't even have a picnic with us. Sigh...
